The Latest
Slow and steady is the name of the game for the time being.
Been away to the Dordogne for 2 weeks and only manged one 5 miler. Usually I hit the trails over there for the majority of any spare time that I may get but 'fortunately' for me we were located away from these and the fairly busy roads were the only option. 5 miles is the furthest I've managed since last November and although slow, I had no pain during, immediately after or 24-hours later which is brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So the plan. From the week of the 22nd August I'm going to start with early morning 5k's to start each day before work so that I can get into the gym during lunchtime to work on strength and cross training. It's important to take each day individually as I don't want any flare up of the tendonitis.
Lots of races/events happening at the moment that I'm desperate to get involved in namely, Chippenham Half, Malmesbury Tri and some biggies like the NDW Marathon/50/100 and the obvious one the ACC 2011. There's always next year when I'll be stronger and fitter than before!

The Turnaround
Things are starting to look a bit more positive.
No running since November but last night I got the green light from the physio to try it out. Only half a mile for the first week but it's a start. I get to move up to 1 mile in 2 weeks time!! It's funny, I was so excited to run this morning I was up and out the door by 06:30; thing is, I was back 4 minutes later. Oh well, it's a start and must take things gradually so not to stir up the tendonitis.
I must admit to it being very difficult watching and reading about everyone I know running and racing, particularly being the build up to the ACC in September/October (which I'm obviously going to miss) but If I do things properly, I'm aiming to come back fitter and faster for 2012.
Watch this space!

Long time....
Quick update.
Been out of the trainers now since the end of October (going on 4 months!!) Finally got to see a consultant (orthopedic lower limb) and have just had an MRI on the dodgy knee. The results are due in sometime next week. In a sort of masochistic way I need them to find something in order that I can get it mended. Worse-case scenario, they find nothing and therefore the pain that I am experiencing in my knee can't be sorted without a long layoff from running.
Fingers crossed X

It's been a while....and injuries!!
I decided to take a deserved week off following the ACC 2010 to let the feet heal properly. If I'd known what was to happen, I wouldn't have done this. I went for a run following my week of glutony and laziness and experienced an excrutiating pain in my right knee. Turned out to be patellar tendonitis (!!)
It's now been nearly 7 weeks out of the trainers. I feel fat, lethargic and in desperate need of getting back on my running feet properly. I attempted this last Sunday and thought I'd take it nice and steady. A brand new pair a trainers and a blue sky morning coincided with the snow and ice and a previous night of freezing temperatures.....and black ice. 1.5 miles down the road, feeling great, knee holding out and I went arse over tit. I lay in the road for a few seconds (quiet country lane thankfully) waiting for the numbing adrenaline to wane to see what damage had been done. Severe pain in my elbow, wrist and back but worse of all......broken Garmin strap and a big scratch over the bezel!!!!
Anyway, I waited until Monday to visit the local A&E. X-rays showed no breakages but a sprained wrist, sprained elbow, deep tissue bruising and whiplash (!) on my neck and back.
So much for this fitness lark!
A week later and I'm turning to desperate measures and dusting off the treadmill. Clearly I can't be trusted to not go out and injure myself in these winter months, but at the same time I am doing Ellen's head in because all I do is moan that I WANT TO RUN!!
I've already missed the first 5 weeks of a 16 week marathon programme for the Duchy Marathon next year. I really want to do myself proud but the way I'm feeling right now is that if I don't get going again soon it will be a long slog.
Maybe emigrate to a warmer climate (or at least somewhare that grits the roads on a regular basis!)
At least I've got a nice new road bike to look forward to from Daddy Crimbo.
